Who we are
Reform Parliament is a campaigning website for anyone interested in improving British democracy. It has no party affiliation. Forums are attached which anyone can join and have their say.
Reform Parliament starts from the premise that the Houses of Parliament, Britain’s premier public institution, are dysfunctional. They make the law, take the country to war, raise taxes, run the economy and spend billions.
Yet owing to a corrupt voting system Parliament does not reflect the will of the British people. Half of Parliament – the House of Lords – isn’t even elected. There is no written constitution so no one knows where they stand, and no bill of rights so our ancient liberties are trampled upon.
After many years of constitutional reform being only of marginal interest, the MPs’ expenses scandal and the 2010 general election catapulted it centre-stage. Britain is presented with a precious opportunity to clear out the rotten boroughs and reach a new settlement between people and Parliament.
Reform Parliament advocates lawful and peaceful change. The devolution of power to the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly showed that peaceful constitutional change in Britain is possible. There’s no reason why it can’t be done for Westminster.
